Our projects
We’re currently running a combination of planting and management projects. Here’s an idea of the type of work we can help with. For the latest updates visit our Facebook page.
WOODLAND TRUST WENTWOOD RESTORATION PROJECT, PRYOR & RICKETT SILVICULTURE LTD

Wentwood is the largest ancient woodland in Wales and the ninth largest in the UK. It played a vital role in the First World War, supplying timber which was used to construct the trenches.

When re-planting began in the 1950s, non-native conifers replaced the original broadleaved deciduous trees with a damaging effect on the woodland habitat.

Aber Forestry has been responsible for re-stocking this vast area with its native broadleaf, as well as carrying out subsequent maintenance. Extending to around 60 hectares, Wentwood is our largest project to date.

Testimonial from Andrew Sowerby at Pryor and Rickett Silviculture:

“Aber Forestry provide safe, conscientious and high quality work. Collaborating over 5 planting seasons, Nick and his team have delivered hundreds of thousands of planted trees for our clients with care and precision. Aber Forestry have worked for us on sensitive habitats and archaeological features, they have maintained the thousands of trees they have planted and demonstrate the ambition to do better each year. It’s always a privilege to work with highly skilled professional contractors like Aber Forestry.”
WHITNEY WOODS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Whitney Woods is a privately owned, 25-hectare mixed woodland in Herefordshire. We were tasked with one simple but important objective: to improve the woodland.

Over the past three years we have undertaken severe rhododendron control, with wide widening and a resulting increase in biodiversity. Additionally, we recommended thinning the existing conifer and broadleaf to improve the long-term future of the woodland and generate income.

This is an ongoing project and the next stage will focus on enrichment planting.

Testimonial from Will Bullough, owner of Whitney Woods:

"Nick and his team have been involved in our wood at Whitney for many years. They have been key to achieving my various woodland and conservation management aims and have always been reliable, knowledgeable and thoughtful. I can highly recommend their services."
